Most coffee cherries contain two coffee beans nestled face to face. That’s why coffee beans are flat on one side. But, about 3-5% of coffee cherries hold just one small oval-shaped bean instead of two flat-sided beans. These small oval beans are called “peaberry” beans. Peaberry kona coffee is rare simply because nature makes it so. Out of every 100 bags of Kona coffee, only 3-5 bags will be Peaberry.

Peaberry beans roast up wonderfully. Full bodied and smooth, with just a hint of bite. Connoisseurs have dubbed Peaberry the “Champagne of Kona.” As more coffee lovers discover this unique little bean with the big sassy taste, demand for peaberry is growing. Demand for peaberry is so high that we often have to purchase unroasted Peaberries from smaller farmers that don’t sell to the public. Even then we sometimes run out. Enjoy this decadent little bean that natures makes so rare.

Peaberry Beans

This is the very first coffee that I can say actually tastes smooth to me! It is so soft in the mouth and yet very, very flavorful. Well worth the cost for a luxury item. I am trying to limit myself so it can last for awhile. :-)

peaberry med roast whole bean Kona coffee

Might be smoothest best tasting coffee I've ever had. Only problem is a 1lb bag was $88. I can get fresh roasted Costa Rican medium roast whole been for $12 lb, so value for the dollar is why I had to take off a star. It's like tasting a $200 bottle of wine vs a $100 bottle, you can tell one is slightly better but you'd rather have 2 - $100 bottles than 1 - $200 bottle. I'd rather have 6lbs of Tunisian Peaberry roasted 3 days ago.

Have always drank my coffee with cream and sugar but not with this!!Flavor is smooth with a nutty aftertaste which is complemented by a touch of cream in my cup. AMAZING!!

Peaberry Medium Roast

We have a subscription from another company which allows us to sample coffees from around the world. We grind our beans and use a paper filter in our Technivorm Moccamaster with a metal carafe to avoid overcooking. Koa Peaberry Medium Roast is the best coffee we have ever tasted. Terms such as smooth and rich do not do it justice. It must be tried to be appreciated.

Simply the best. A smooth complex cup of coffee with no bitter aftertaste. I don't have a lot of extra money to spend but when I want to treat myself, I order a couple of bags of Peaberry KOA and am always happy I did. Just delicious.

I’m an unabashed coffee snob who’s tried hundreds of different coffees over the past 30 years, in French presses and espresso machines and pour-over setups and drip pots and Aeropresses and pretty much any other way one can make it, and this is hands-down the best I’ve ever tasted. The complexity and depth of flavor are unreal. Yes, it’s more expensive than Folgers, but if you appreciate good coffee, it’s absolutely worth the indulgence.

We love all of their coffees! Peaberry is our favorite and I buy this coffee for special occasions. We love them all but this to us is the best! We love the whole bean as nothing is better than fresh ground coffee, especially with Peaberry!

I live on Seattle--the home of Starbucks. One of the first Starbucks roasters/tasters taught me to appreciate good coffee back in the early '80's. During a visit to the Big Island, I went to a specialty coffee store and learned about the growing conditions there--and the magic of Peaberry. I have a subscription and love to share my taste and knowledge with family, friends and neighbors over a cup of this amazingly delicious brew.... As a nurse....let me inform you that a PAPER FILTER (unbleached is best) is key in removing the cholesterol from your coffee, if you have a high cholesterol count. Enjoy!
